Shelly bean trains

Hubs and I have big plans for our summer! The first is a 200K bike race on June 12! I signed up for my first triathlon in August. I'll be tracking my training here!


May 10:
It was 31 this morning, so we only did 5 miles in to work. On the way home, we got to experience something very rare in the spring -- no wind! We did 13 miles home, with an average of 20.2 mph!!

May 9:
31 miles. In 15 mph winds. It was 41 out without windchill. Brrrrrr!

May 7:
It's raining today, so we hopped on the hybrids instead of the tandem. They're much better suited for rides in the rain, mostly because they have fenders. Short in this morning, and probably short home if it's raining.
And, it was pouring on our ride home. Thankfully, we dodged the worst of it! We got home about 10 minutes before it really started coming down.

May 6:
Since we only have our parking permit until the end of the week, I took advantage and got my hair cut over lunch. So, we drove to work today and didn't get any miles in. Shea did start mowing our jungle of a backyard, so I guess he gets some cardio points. Instead of helping, I was grill master for the evening (gasp!), so no cardio for me.

Miles this week: 89

May 5:
Long way in, so that's a start. We might do a long ride before heading home... maybe... if the weather holds up. We're definitely trying to make this a high mileage week!
So, we did 27 miles after work today! So, that brings us up to 40 for the day!

May 4:
Rest day! After 2 long rides, my legs were screaming, so we decided to take advantage of the week left on our parking permit and drive in.

May 3:
Long-short ride into work today, which brings us up to 18 miles for the day. (ok, I'm posting this before we ride home, but we have to get home, and we're going the shortest distance to do that, so I think it's safe to say that we'll hit that 18).

We're supposed to get to 180 this week?! Sooo not going to happen!

May 2:
So, I haven't been posting on here because I've been embarrassed about our lack of riding! After a couple of weeks off to finish out our crazy semester, we're officially back in the saddle! 30 miles today with an average of 18.8 mph. Not bad after a couple of weeks off!

April 23:
Dang it! It's been so cold in the morning, and I'm still fighting off this cough! We've still only got 20 miles this week... We're hoping to squeeze in a ride this afternoon, otherwise it's going to have to be a really long ride tomorrow... in the rain :-o (that's a gaspy face)!

April 20:
5 miles in and 5 miles home again. I'm definitely still recovering from being sick! I feel like I have no energy! But, we did manage to average 15.8 mph on the way home. Not bad!

April 19:
Well, I'm still recovering from this cold, so it seemed prudent to limit our miles a little bit today. Plus, it's still freezing in the mornings here! It was 33 this morning when we set off for work. That level of cold has a very detrimental effect on our muscles... So, 5 miles in and 5 miles home this morning on our hybrids. We averaged ~15 mph on the way home, but I forgot to check on the way in. Oops! For our hybrids, that speed's definitely not bad. Those things are HEAVY!!!

Total miles so far this week: 10.

April 18:
Miles ridden to date: 144 (split between our hybrids and the tandem)
Instead of doing a detailed breakdown of the miles to be ridden each day, we decided to create weekly goals from now until our ride on June 12. Unfortunately, we're already behind on those goals :( Thanks to some pretty horrible colds this week, we got no where near the 100 miles we were supposed to ride this week.

Here's our training plan:
April 11-17: 100 miles
April 18-24: 130 miles
April 25-May 1: 150 miles
May 2-8: 180 miles
May 9-15: 180 miles
May 16-22: 200 miles
May 23-29: 200 miles
May 30-June 5: 200 miles
June 6-11: 70 miles (taper)

The real goal is to post our progress here daily, but we've been a little embarrassed about our progress because of the aforementioned colds. But, it's time to come clean. So, for this week:
Monday: 10 miles
Tuesday: sick
Wednesday: sick
Thursday: 27 miles
Friday: 19 miles
Saturday: sick...
Sunday: still sick :(
Hopefully we'll be ready to ride tomorrow after taking the weekend to rest up!
